“Jessica Post…is one of the newest and youngest competitors in the field of full-contact, competitive jousting, which is gaining new popularity in America as an extreme sport. The riders collide at almost 25mph atop highly trained horses, each knight seeking to score a solid strike against their opponent, or better yet to throw them from their steed.”
“‘I always thought it would be cool to be a knight,’ she said. ‘But I never thought I would be able to do it.’”
—Woman of Steel: Female knight making her mark in competitive jousting
The part of me that was a kid who used to want to try bike jousting (in lieu of not having access to a horse) is jealous.
THE DEVIL YOU KNOW [ heist / drama ] → Tom Hiddleston, Damian Lewis, Rachel McAdams, Diane Kruger. [ The Devil You Know by Econoline Crush ] Requested by Carly.
World renowned jewel thief, Jacob Sheldon (Tom Hiddleston), has long since retired from his life of crime, instead content to spend the rest of his days with his wife, Erica (Rachel McAdams), in peace and quiet in upstate New York. Erica is an elementary school teacher, and Jacob has found work at an accounting firm. Erica knows nothing of her husband’s past, and Jacob intends for it to stay that way. Jacob has remained under the radar for a number of years now, even though many of his crimes have gone unsolved due a lack of evidence, particularly his last heist in which he lifted millions of dollars worth of jewels from Sotheby’s. This, much to the chagrin of Detective Richard Lucas (Damian Lewis), who has spent the past seven years tracking Jacob and his movements, and was assigned to his case file a few years before the thief retired. Detective Lucas has vowed to send Jacob to prison, making it his life’s work to acquire enough evidence to do so.
However, Jacob and Erica’s quiet life isn’t due to last for much longer. Ursel Meinhard (Diane Kruger), head of a German crime syndicate, is desperate to get her hands on a priceless ruby being showcased in Paris. Trusting this mission only to a thief of extremely high caliber, she approaches Jacob with an offer most could not refuse, but is rebuked. Determined to get Jacob to do this job for her, she acquires the only leverage that she can think of - his wife. When Ursel and her associates kidnap Erica, and threaten to kill her unless Jacob meets their demands and helps them obtain the ruby, Jacob does not hesitate to accept their offer and agree to work with them, despite his desire to never again return to his thieving ways. Detective Lucas begins to notice a change in Jacob’s patterns, and even though the former thief finds his way out of the detective’s jurisdiction, it does not stop him from following him to Paris and being one step behind his every move.
With his wife’s life hanging in the balance, Jacob must successfully pull off the most difficult heist of his long since over career, all of the while trying to stay out of Detective Lewis’ grasp and keep Ursel appeased.

It occurred to me today that there’s going to be a whole generation of kids who don’t know who Carmen Sandiego is. And I just have to say, that is unacceptable. I love Carmen Sandiego and she is long overdue for a comeback. Carmen, it’s time to come out of hiding and steal the Mason-Dixon Line or the Spanish language or something crazy like that. Our children need you.
THE WAR IN DEMAND [sci-fi / war / horror] → Chris Hemsworth, Candice Accola, Anna Torv, Idris Elba. [ Shuffle Your Feet by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club ] Requested by Carly.
The year is 2108, and the world exists in a state of martial law, which has not been lifted since the end of the last Great War sixteen years previous. Millions killed, countries decimated, the remaining Super Powers combined their efforts to oversee the rebuilding of Earth’s economy, the clean-up of the planet, and the integration of people back into a normal, less militant society. Governed by the former First Lady of the United States, Lydia Salem (Anna Torv), what remains of the world operates in cities underground in what were once government bunkers, cut off from the destruction on the world’s surface, and rumours of creatures that dwell there. Strict rules are placed on Earth’s remaining inhabitants to keep them safe, with monthly visits to the Psychiatrists, former scientists who assist Earth’s people in remembering a world before war. It is the job of the Psychiatrists to meld their minds with their patients’, feeding them images and thoughts of a more peaceful time and of what the world will be like once they are allowed back onto the surface.
Scott Forester (Chris Hemsworth) barely remembers the world before the end of the war, his mind filled with the imagery provided by the Psychiatrists. He lives a relatively quiet life, working in an office that logs the reports filed by the aides of the Psychiatrists in which appointments have gone awry into a bigger database. However, there is a steady incline in appointments becoming violent, with patients and Psychiatrists being killed in the process. Scott’s own Psychiatrist, Christian King (Idris Elba) grows weary of what appears to be a slow and steady uprising, confiding during their mind melds that all is not as it seems on the surface of the world, that there are reasons humanity has existed underground for nearly two decades. Unbeknownst to Scott, he is being fed top secret and confidential information about the war that nearly ended the world, and is being primed to become the leader in an uprising in which he will have no control.
King’s aide, Bethany Tremblay (Candice Accola) is aware of what Scott is being groomed for, of the dangers that he will soon face, the nameless fear and unknown terrors that wait on the surface of the world. Breaking an oath she took upon becoming an aide, she confides what she knows to Scott, making him fully aware of the revolution he suddenly finds himself shepherding. Pulled in the directions of the people that remain of the world, their numbers growing in protest, and the government which is slowly growing wise to what Christian has prepared him for, Scott must learn to think for himself and join the appropriate cause, lest it signal the end of what little remains of the free world.
AMAZING. (Also: can you tell I have an obsession with certain actors? NEVER.)
